Basic information

I feel I must oppose the view expressed?by Chris Baldwin (‘Letters’, Clocks, March 2007). Although I am now an MBHI and a member of the Project 150 team at the Institute, I wasn’t always so.

We are very lucky in the area in which I live, in there being clock repair classes at one of the local colleges. This was what got me started about 18 years ago and I am grateful to this day to the man who runs them. The provision of basic information is crucial for beginners and the idea that making that provision constitutes a diminution in quality is, in my opinion, completely misguided.
