Dominion or not?

I wonder if you can identify the clockmaker in the attached photographs?

The only identification is the letter D on the dial with a left-facing arrow going through. ‘Made in England’ is printed on both the dial and the movement. The movement is eight-day, seven-jewelled lever. The bezel is 150mm diameter and all is very well made and heavy.

As can be seen, both the clock and its movement are in fine working order. The clock belonged to my late parents, my father being a watch and clock repairer/retailer in the late 1940s and early 1950s in Leicester.

As the clock has only recently come back into my possession after many years, it has raised my curiosity as to its age, maker and maker's location etc. It has been suggested that it might be by the Dominion Clock Co, Clerkenwell, London and made around the 1930s-1940s, but I cannot find any reference to this company on Google or MSN.

Any help or pointers will be much appreciated. Many thanks in anticipation,

Dave Chapman, UK
